NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Flood-Affected Communities in Kano State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provided relief materials to communities in Kibiya and Madobi Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kano State, following severe flooding in August and September 2024. The distribution was coordinated by NEMA’s Kano Office to aid victims struggling with the disaster’s impact. The relief items distributed included 500 bags of 25kg rice, 500 bags of 25kg maize, 45 cartons of tomato paste containing 50 sachets each, 45 cartons of vegetable oil with four 5-liter bottles per carton, 45 cartons of seasoning cubes, and 20 bags of iodized salt. Hajiya Zubaida Umar, Director-General of NEMA, represented by the Kano Office Head, emphasized that the relief items were not compensation but a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting disaster victims. She urged beneficiaries to use the materials wisely. Hon. Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, commended NEMA’s swift response, reminding recipients that the aid was meant to alleviate hardship, not replace lost property. Representatives from Kibiya and Madobi LGAs expressed gratitude to NEMA and the Federal Government for their timely intervention and support. The event was attended by dignitaries and stakeholders, including representatives from the Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local media, the Chairman of Madobi LGA, and the Vice Chairman of Kibiya LGA. It highlighted NEMA’s dedication to disaster response and humanitarian support, ensuring affected communities receive the necessary assistance to recover.
