The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Kano State was established by the present administration under the able Leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor Engr, Abba Kabir Yusuf in April, 2024.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Disaster Management: Coordinate disaster response, relief and rehabilitation efforts,
- Poverty Alleviation: Implement programs to alleviate poverty, promote economic empowerment and improve living standards,
- Humanitarian Assistance: Provide aid to vulnerable populations including refugees, IDPs and Returnees,
- Social Protection: Develop and implement social protection programs including cash transfers, food assistance and shelter support,
- Community Development: Support community based initiatives to promote sustainable development,
- Partnership and Collaboration: Foster partnership with Government agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and private sector organizations’.
Legal Framework:
The Ministry’s mandate is established under the;
- Kano State Government Law (2023)
- National Humanitarian Policy (2016),
- National Social Protection Policy (2017).
MANDATE OF THE MDA:
Mandate:
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Kano State is mandated to;
- Provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations affected by disaster, conflict and other crises,
- Develop and implement policies and programs to alleviate poverty and promote social protection,
- Coordinate disaster risk reduction and management efforts in Kano State,
- Provide relief and rehabilitation support to affected communities,
- Promote sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment for vulnerable populations,
- Faster partnerships with national and international organizations’ to leverage resources and expertise,
- Conduct research, advocacy and policy development to inform humanitarian and poverty alleviation efforts.
