MINISTRY’S DEPARTMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This Ministry has Departments headed by Directors as follows:
- ADMINISTRATION AND GENERAL SERVICES
The Department is headed by the Director and General Service as the name indicates is charged with the responsibility of providing support, administrative guidance/ advice as well as co-coordinating the activities of the Departments towards achieving the set objectives of the Ministry. It also manages the finances of the Ministry. In addition, it handles all the personnel matters to achieve this; the Department is sub-divided into four (4) sections namely;
- Administration,
- Account and
- Transport
The functions of the Department are as follows:
- Take charge and advice on General Administration of the Ministry,
- Provide leadership control, direct purpose of the Ministry including orientation to the needs of Government so as to sustain high morale.
- Including sense of services, discipline, cohesion, dedication and loyalty in the staff through enforcement of standard procedure in conformity with extend rules and regulations governing the service,
- To organize overall management of finances of the Ministry and ensure maintenance of proper accounting system and records,
- To ensure the preparation of financial report monthly as may be required,
- To preside over Senior/Junior Staff promotion and disciplinary/Ministry’ Training Committee Meetings,
- To examine a continuous basis of conducive working environment in order to raise Staff morale,
- To fine-tune Ministry’s goals and objectives vis-à-vis the drive policies and aspirations of Government,
- To participate in planning/ execution of the Ministry’s Departments programme and liaise with the Ministry of Finance and State Budget and Planning Ministry on all financial matters,
- However, is the coordinating body between the Ministry and other MDAs across the State as it relates to Administrative correspondence,
- To determine training needs and priorities in consultation with other Directors in accordance with training policies and guidelines,
- To ensure prompt response in all establishment and other service related circular/correspondences issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service and Office of the Secretary to the State Government respectively,
- The Department liaises with stakeholders and all extra-ministerial departments including Federal Agencies.

Account Unit
Account Unit is responsible for the entire financial operations of the Ministry, Budgeting expenditure planning and execution day to day management and record keeping are core functions of the Unit. Considering the size and magnitude of the daily operations of the Ministry, Account Unit plays a vital role in ensuring payments of all operational logistics.
The Unit also coordinates and manages periodic and routine budgetary allocations and any other revenue where necessary, ensures expenditure compliance with prevailing Kano State Government rules and applicable accounting standards.
- PLANNING RESEARCH AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT
The Department is headed by the Director Planning, Research and Statistics as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- To conduct researches and planning of Ministry’s activities,
- Undertake Statistical measures via monitoring and evaluation of Ministry’s activities/program for management assessments,
- To monitor the implementation of programs, evaluate their impact, and ensure accountability and transparency in the Ministry’s activities.
- Overseeing the activities of the Information and Communication Technology Unit
ICT UNIT;
The Head of the Unit is under the DPRS Department and its responsibilities entails;
- To undertakes and recommend on general ICT functions in the Ministry,
- To facilitate project/programs correlated to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the Ministry
- DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND RAPID RESPONSE
The Department is headed by the Director Disaster Management and Rapid Response as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- Chief Accounting Officer of the Department,
- To develop and implement disaster preparedness plans,
- Coordinate emergency response efforts,
- Provide relief assistance during disasters.
- SOCIAL SUPPORT SERVICES
The Department is headed by a Director social support as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- To provide social support services, including food assistance, shelter, healthcare,
- Counseling to vulnerable populations
- HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS
The Department is headed by a Director Humanitarian Affairs as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- To address the needs of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees by providing protection, assistance;
- Support for their reintegration.
- POVERTY ALLEVIATION, COMMUNITY RE-ORIENTATION AND LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT.
The Department is headed by the Director Poverty Alleviation, Community Re-orientation and Livelihood Support as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- To implement programs and initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, improving livelihoods;
- Promoting economic empowerment among marginalized communities,
- PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND EMPOWERMENT.
The Department is headed by the Director Public Enlightenment, Community Development and Empowerment as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- Conducting of Public Enlightenment and Sensitization;
- To develop and implement programmes to engage with communities,
- Promote community driven development initiatives, and empower local populations to address their own social and economic challenges.
- PARTNERSHIP AND RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
The Department is headed by the Director Partnership and Resource Mobilization as the name indicates is charged with the following responsibilities;
- To collaborate with other government agencies, NGOs, international organizations, and donors to mobilize resources, build partnerships, and leverage external support for humanitarian initiatives.
